week 28

this is what I have done for week 28...

yep, nothing...lets see what the public holiday on wednesday brings, hopefully some inspiration!

......all i did this week was take pictures...with our little 6 year old neice and her dad, my brother-in-law over for just a weeks visit, we spent lots of time doing touristy things...

...have also been working late nights, so maybe this week will be more fruitful. well, more fruitful than just taking hundreds of photos!

week 27

Having made my new stained glass sample this week, I also embarked on the spider web sample for my upcoming classes the next two weeks.

i also taught eagan how to knit..he was almost a natural....

and that, was week 27....not a lot happening, just working, and waiting for seans brother and our neice to arrive from the UK....

week 26..and 27.

Phew. This is hard going. We spent a very rainy weekend, under threat of a cyclone, then downgraded to a tropical storm, and the kids were pent up with energy, so we mosaiced!
Here is a matching word for my Love:

Week 27 and I met up with a friend on friday afternoon and we scrapped. It had been toooo long. I don't think I have scrapped this year at all. I worked on a kit from local art shop, and from online scrapkits. The scrapping bug bit, and I scrapped all weekend until I ran out of sticky things!

Have also made up a stained glass square, so my students can see that the stained glass quilt can look great in batiks, as well as in kiddie prints.

AND I found a covered button tool, and made 4 little buttons...need more supplies and my plan is to make co-ordinating funky ones, tag them up and hopefully sell them on. Feeding my crafting habit is expensive you know!

week 24, 25 and heading into 26

All consumed with houses I am! I have today, finished stitching my houses into a row. My sweet little houses now need some borders, some quilting and then I think I am going to frame them. Space however is an issue, with our thatch, our walls are limited. and already full of mosaics, scrapbooked frames, pictures, photographs, and yes, quilts! I think a loooonnnnng frame will be more versatile than a quilt hanging....only, I will lose the tactile equation.

so there you have them: TA DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! (to echo Lucy from Attic 24, my FAV crochet spot)

Week 25 also saw a bit more hooky...

made these from the purl magazine, a local South African yarn manufacturer's magazine. These cottons are also local, and are so nice to crochet with in this heat wave.

now, as we head into week 26..shall i scrap a little with these new papers and stamps I have acquired..

or should a play more with my yarns...
or perhaps start a new house project?
watch this space!

week 22 and 23...plodding along these last two weeks

have decided that instead of dwelling on the negative, am going to get positive..and try not to worry about things i cannot control. Having said that, it is amazing how once I let go of all the things bothering me, I have had a burst of creativity. So after a slow February..get ready to create with me!

week 22 I put together a quilt with fabric that I'd had for a while...I needed to do something and this was it...
week 22:bold and beautifully simple

I also finished the last of a series of three dinosaurs for eagan - i love cross stitch, and have been doing it since age 13. It was the only craft I ever taught my mother!

week 23: saw me finally quilting my second quilt i ever made, after 8 years or so! it a glorious bright happy stained glass quilt...am thinking of teaching ti in the shop come march/april.

having inspired my crafting friend to try her hand at paper piecing, and after watching the ladies in the lesson, i decided i just had to get my book out from storage and make my own street! started yesterday afternoon, and finished my first house today..this is what my colour palette looks like, and her is the first house, and the start of house number two...in the middle of my street...my house....

not my usual colours, but something i have to do...can picture it in my head, lets hope it works out! x

And that, was week 22 and 23!

love me, and the one eyed dog.

nothing like losing an eye to dampen a crafting weekend...

our poor mae lin peke doggie, is now a one eyed wonder. we have her home safe and sound and sure hope we can keep her that way. SO, to put it selfishly, my weekend crafty plans were thrown haywire late friday afternoon...

..did manage to have a playdate with two clever friends on Saturday afternoon...we played with a make-do printing press (trusty cuttlebug) and some collography plates made by P. The plates were etched, and also had items like string stuck to them, to create images in ink when run through a press. Designed for paper (lithography), we had to try it on fabric of course!

here the fabric is stuck on the plate, we are about to peel it off...

result! with a bit of gold leaf added....anyways, we played for hours and hours...

...enough to take my mind off my dog for a couple of hours...
came home and watched bud bud and lily play.

also took kids to see the Queen Mary docked in Durban harbour.

That was week 21, looking forward to a better week 22!

week 20: hard to focus

i have always loved things in miniature. which may explain why my daughter also loves playing with the tiniest people, houses and animals she can find. this week, i found some of my miniature quilts. mostly unfinished. so i started on getting them ready to hang or frame.

the first one had a few blocks done already...the square in a square so I just made some more blocks, added a border and Ta Da!

next, was the pineapple block...found the tiny pieces of fabric i was using, and the pattern....

and TA DA!

then, had to do some mommy duty, made ella a recorder bag...

...covered some books and even had time for some hooky:

as well as cups of tea and my auntys famous shortbread...

watched by peeka...

and waited for by Lily....

and that, in a nutshell, was week 20!
